It's Upper Body Day

How to Focus on Self-Care During Changing Times

There’s more to being well than just working out and eating healthy fare. Taking a thorough idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is crucial for your overall well-being. We like to describe this as self-care. Here are some of our favorite practices for self-care.

Stay Connected

We may be practicing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t connect with others! Schedule an online coffee time or happy hour with your friends. Keep it cheerful and tell each other one good thing that happened to you lately. Make plans for when you can see each other again and how comforting it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are better and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!

Follow a Flexible Routine

Create an agenda for your yourself but allow for some flexibility. For example, get up around the same time each morning and turn in to bed around the same time every night. Write down your goals for the day and plan out your work tasks, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk outside, or to relax with your favorite book. Don’t be too rigid with your schedule that you create avoidable stress. Finding a balance between procedure and recreation will help you have a more useful and gratifying day.

Practice Gratitude

Thankfulness is good for us. The more gratitude we display to others during uncertain times, the more joyful and stronger we become. Allow others grace. One of our most treasured ways to carry out gratitude is to call a loved one and express to them how much you cherish them. A a written note is also a welcome and unexpected surprise that is sure to make someone’s day.

Get Outside

There’s not a thing better than spending time out of the house, taking in the fresh air. Take a stroll with your dog every day after lunch. Call hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and ask them how they’re feeling. Stay in the sunshine for a while and practice taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!

Find Joy

Just because we can’t go out to dinner at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy our meals! Experiment with a new recipe for dinner and make your meals count. Turn up your favorite music, get the kids in on the process, and have a fun time with it!

A Self-Care Staycation

Your outlook on life affects your day-to-day life and influences your actions. And during these tough times, it’s even more vital to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s take this opportunity to create healthy routines and come out of this quarantine healthier and happier!
